1,950 Dark Angels vs Tyranids (No Handicap)
Deployment: Hammer and Anvil
Hex: Chamos
There is little to report concerning the Chamos Sector, the newest territory to be reclaimed for the Imperium. News had reached our outposts in the Drachus system of a large Hive infestation at Chamos, and a detachment of Astartes was dispatched to investigate, well-equipped to deal with whatever threat the Xenos could pose. However, when the expedition returned and Dark Angels Librarian Kheos was asked to submit his mission report, his response was terse.
"Squish."
Dark Angels: Primary Objective One - 4 points, Primary Objective Two - 4 points, Slay the Warlord - 3 points, Linebreaker - 1 point
Tyranids: killed no models, none survived.
Squish
This match up was so one sided, had I been playing, I would have shook hands at deployment, given the Marines the game and asked for a friendly match rather than waste time playing this out.
ReplyDeleteThe Tyranids had a max Str6 and 18" range (plus two single 36" Str6 shots)
They were trying to take on an army made of AV12 armour (Plus a void sheild generator!) and ranged weapons that covered the table.
(It was like Rock-Paper-Scissors where the Scissors player continues to try to find a way to beat Rock for a few hours)
Also
Hammer and Anvil deployment, no night fighting.
No line-of-sight blocking terrain and no cover big enough to hide 25% of a Carnifex.
and Marines steeling the initiative
Everything seemed to go in favour of the Angels, but when was the last time they came to the table without Armour Saves of 2+ and AV12?
DeleteUp until my latest fight, everyone who was playing a Lord of War has informed me before hand. I thought it was the accepted thing to do as they are not in the Codex and by rights shouldn't be played. A player 'asks permission' to play a Lord of War and by granting the permission the opposing player accepts that they will need to plan for a biggie! No other info needs to be shared, however.
After the previous battle with Joe he was asked not to play a Lord of War,
ReplyDeleteso I talked him into trying a battle without one.
It was a bit disappointing to then see him face the Dark Angels Lord of War.
We talked after the match and agreed that
if you are playing a Lord of War you should inform your opponent
so they can build a list appropriately.
Tyranid Warlord died so no continuing War Lord Trait (was Digestive Denial: -1 to a cove save)
ReplyDeleteDark Angels had Divide to Conquer (-1 penalty to Enemy reserve rolls)
Sounds like a case "bringing a knife to a gun fight"! I agree about the LOW, but I'd suggest that we should give too many details - got to maintain an element of surprise on the night.
ReplyDeleteDarren, can you update the map for the ork victory at Volistad? Thanks
