The Tyranids charged forward onto an aggressively placed Aeldari vanguard of Rangers. This left two squads of Rangers in the open and fully susceptible to the unexpected Tyranid firepower while a further Ranger squad was almost within charging range of a massive swarm of Hormagaunts, not the Rangers preferred target. Other Tyranid shots found their marks, weakening two Dark Reaper teams (who were being denied their cover) and putting a small dent in the Hemlock Wraith Fighter, thanks to the compound eyes of the Hive Tyrant Warlord.
The Aeldari reply was a precision strike to try to take down two key targets, the Tyranid Warlord and one of the advancing Carnifexen. Although crippling the Tyranid Warlord these strikes were not decisive. Both the Warlord and the Carnifex would go onto survive the battle - the Hive Tyrant Warlord would not hit another target from that point but the Carnifex did go onto score three points from objectives. In other battles the Hormagaunts took down the third squad of Rangers and were advancing onto a fourth.
This first round caused a swing against the Aeldari from which they never recovered.
