In a titanic 10,000 point encounter, both armies were able to deploy Titans, super-heavy tanks, flyers, Gargantuans and Psychic Formations with scant regard.
Despite the battlefield boasting dimensions of 84"x72", 10,000 points made it cramped and the 'short and fat' dimensions brought the armies crucially close to one another.
The battle itself, had three decisive moments: The Imperium winning the toss and putting the Eldar in, the Wraithknights being able to tar-pit the Imperium Reaver Titan in the first turn and a turn of outrageous stomping of a dangerous invisible Imperium bike squad from the remaining couple of Wraithknights towards the end of the battle.
In between, the Deepstiking falcons with their cargo of Fire Dragons and a Farseer Council had taken the fight to the Imperium who hid beneath a Strategic Asset Shield, forcing two of their super heavies to remain out of the fray until after the break. However, going second enabled the Imperium to stick to its plans and secure objectives, while scoring off the exposed Wraithknights who were not able to engage the Reaver in turn one.
The Eldar kept their own flyers in reserve, only to come out in response to the Imperium air superiority, who found difficulty engaging the Eldar force beneath their Void Shield Generators.
With the Imperium continuing to score, they brought on their Warhound Titan and superheavy tank, but again were unable to make significant headway against the Eldar defences. By now, the remnants of the Deepstriking Fire Dragons and the Wraithknights had removed the Reaver from the field, the Eldar heavies had removed the Warhound and the Imperium air superiority had been negated.
Despite holding a lead, the Imperium general conceded defeat knowing that his own force had been severely compromised and with the big scoring rounds and the Eldar Jetbike Reserves to come, discretion was indeed the better part of valour. Until next time!
For the Harvest!
