Tournament 2016: Adeptus Mechanicus v Tyranids

Points: 1,850
Mechanicus reduced bonus from War Convocation:
Each model has only bought a single item for free (free upgrades have been taken in addition).
Mission: Deep Jungle
Deployment: Dawn of War
Night Fight

The Tech Priest Dominus had received the scribes research on the upcoming Tyranid battle. He did not need to read it, that would have been an unproductive 48 seconds. The Tyranids would be no match for the War Convocation. He understood the Tyranid tunnellers would try to take the out-skirting objectives and he knew these same objectives were in range of his full fire power. The facts were:

1.0 Skitarii and Sicarians hold the out-skirting objectives
2.0 Tyranids attack the out-skirting objectives
3.0 Tyranids die
4.0a Skitarri stay to hold the out-skirting objectives
4.0b Sicarians advance
5.0 Mechanicus win
6.0 Prise the Omnissiah

Battle Report
Turn one: fire power from the Mechanicus killed only one Gaunt. Tyrainds took down the void shield and damaged a Kataphron. Not a great turn for Mechanicus but they were on plan. M3-T3
Turn two: Mechanicus firepower killed the Warlord Hive Tyrant. Tyranids took down the void shield again to kill some Kataphrons. Some of the Tyranid tunnellers arrived and stole an objective from the Skitarii. Mechanicus (substituting the Tech Priest Dominus for the now dead Skitarri) were on plan - except the Mawloc and Ripper Swarms had not arrived. M7-T7
Turn three: Mechanicus gained first blood, and most Tyranids near their objective die. One of the Tyranids survived by the objective and killed the Sicarians. Mechanicus now behind on plan - with a Tyrannofex on one objective and the remaining Tyranid Tunnellers (who had still had not arrived) slowing them. They would not be advacing just yet. M11-T11

Game End *Out of Time*
Draw agreed.

  1. The tricky terrain and tunnelling tyranids made for an entertaining encounter and it seemed unlikely that the combined Mechanicus were going to be able to flush out the remaining tyranids. It mattered not, the watching tech-priests took valuable intel concerning tyranid behaviour and use of cover while securing the point needed from the contest to take the tournament.

  2. Great battle, may favourite part was when the Imperial Knight charged three Genestealers and they took off a hull point.
