There are some units that are so powerful that they may seam as if they are Lords of War.
Eg. Imperial Knights and The Eldar Council
For the sake of game balance all Super Heavy units
and units that cost 400 or more points are to be treated as if they are Lords of War.
This means there can only be one such unit in a Combined Arms detachment.
They also give up a VP per three wounds
+1 to Steal the Initiative
and open a new Warlord Trait table.
Comments please...
We have already trialled this with the Warlock Council and it seems fair. Any reason for the 400 point limit? I have no opinion on it at all, just wanted to hear the thinking behind that number.
ReplyDelete400 was just a gut feeling.
DeleteI didn't want it to be too restrictive.
400 points certainly works for Orkz, the only thing we've got higher than that is a Stompa and that's already a LOW!
ReplyDelete10x Meganobs = 400 points.
DeleteIn fact, why not reduce to 300 points just to given me a better chance of gaining an advantage!
ReplyDeleteBased on last nights performance I would probably change my mind, Gav's Imperial Knight didn't fair particularly well and the Eldar Wraith Knights looked just as threatening. Should they also be LOW? I don't know how many points they are.
ReplyDeleteEldar Knights are as tough (T8 W6 Sv3+) as the Tyranid Lord of War.
DeleteBut start at 240 points.
Ghazghkull is a LoW at 225 Points.
DeleteBut both a unit of megaknobz and Ghazghkull are weak when compared to these units; just look at BS, toughness, damage and AP of weapons. Perhaps we need to have series of duals to establish whether or not the units being debated are equivalent to true LoW which might actually be quite good fun! Perhaps see how a Wraith Knight does against a Stompa?
ReplyDeleteAlso the strength of a unit depends on what it has to fight against.
DeleteThe basic Wraith knight only fires two shots per round
so it could not kill a unit of Boyz.
However; I am not sure that a unit of Boyz could kill a Wraith Knight either.
But a unit of ten Maganobs could (If they could catch one).
And Lord of War Ghazghkull could not defeat a non-lord of war Imperial Knight.
There is a lot of differences that are maybe best left to individual narratives.
Nb. There was a Podcast that had a Big Fight contest (before Lords of War and the Super Heavy) which Eldrad nearly won!
