Five Armies Campaign: Tyranid Skyswarm vs Dark Angels Librarius

Points: 1000+500
Armies: Tyranids (+350) vs Dark Angels (+150)
Mission: City of Death
Deployment: Dawn of War
Night: Forgot

The new Dark Angel psykers with support of void shields and two imperial gunships each with a skyshield landing pad faced the imposing Tyranid Bio-titan Harridon and a host of winged tyranid critters, small and large.

The tyranid reserves kept coming despite the fire power output of the gunships. Invisible Dark Angel units prevented the Tyranids from taking any lives until the end of the game when one Librarian fell. This one kill was enough to give the Tyrainds the victory.

Tyranids: 15 (10 Objective, 2 Sacred Artifacts, 2 Highlander, 1 Center Breaker)
Dark Angels: 14 (8 Objective, 1 First Blood, 1 Warlord, 4 Highlander)

Game declared a draw due to rules confusion.

  1. Game won properly by Skyswarm - no need to replay. However, the mission is a little rule heavy and easy to lose track of/keep up with everything. Perhaps a little pruning would make it easier to manage?

  2. Even I think this mission is a little rule heavy.
I have updated the mission to remove the need for post-it notes to remember the building special rules. The objectives are now worth 3VP and scored at the end of your turn as this is more consistent with similar scoring missions.
I have kept in the Cities of Death movement, Center Breaker and Objectives score once.

    1. Sounds good. Are you also keeping Highlander - that is also a complication for this mission (although a good idea for some games)?

    2. Highlander is a good for balance but not specific to this mission so I could take it out. We could put it in the next campaign for all missions as it would make creating the five armies easier to allow for this.

  3. I am having second thoughts about taking out the one roll for building special rules as in Cities of Death it is to represent searching the city but now you can stay in one building for the same benefit.
