Five Armies Campaign: Ravenwing vs Ork Goffs

Maelstrom of War Mission 2

1000 + 500 Points plus handicaps

The Goffs faced down the new improved Ravenwing with bravery and reckless daring, charging into the fray with bikes to the fore and guns blazing.

Most died. Some ran. Defeat was swift and absolute.

For the Lion.

Ork concession Turn 2. Ouch....

  1. The whole Ravenwing army had 2 up cover saves, re-rollable (save one unit that had 3 up), against Orkz who do not have 'ignores cover' weapons... Frankly I think it was a miracle that we killed any of them!

  2. I also struggled, only managing to kill one Angel model in my last battle (Six turns). Invisibility and re-rollable saves are not fun.

  3. The Ork battle was a blowout - the rerollable saves and strength of both shooting and assaults were too much for the Goff-styled army. The Orks did, however, adopt an aggressive strategy that played into the Ravenwing's hands.

As for the Tyranid battle, the ability to regain entirely destroyed units that have objective secured seemed to provide some degree of balance. So did having to deal with the harridan! I agree with point about Invisibility, but the trade off - which proved decisive - was that getting it cost so much that the Angels did not have enough models to score the VPs needed to win. Killing or preserving units does not necessarily lead to victory.

I don't foresee many 20 Invisible Black Knight armies, as they will cost too much AND they will be found out by certain kinds of opponent. And it would be boring to play only one list.
