Orks and Tyranids switched armies for a repeat of their previous battle.
This was a very enjoyable battle.
It showed me (as Orks) that what looks good on paper is not necessarily as great on the battlefield.
Eg Ork Artillery.
Conversely; Units that I could not see working and had never taken (as Tyranids) proved pivotal.
Eg Tyranofex
And maybe how an army fights is as important as the individual units.
Eg with the Orks I had the mobility with Truckks, Kopters and even Storm Boyz to focus my full fire power against the Tyranid Warlord. This would have left the bulk of the Tyranid models out of range, unable to catch-up.
Also, at one point, I was close enough to charge the Tyranid Warlord with almost 30 Boyz but then I pulled the whole unit back to score one easy point. This unit of Boyz never got out of my deployment zone again. Now, with more Orky experience, I would have tried for the Slay the Warlord point and changed the battle.
I can thoroughly recommend switching armies.
It certainly made for a very interesting battle! It showed me that Flash Gitz are worth trying, reinforced my doubts about Stormboyz and Gunz, and was a warning about how powerful some of the Tyranid units are. I think it also supported my feeling that the armies are designed to fight in a certain way and to get the most out of them you need to fight that way.
